Housed in the historic Paleis Lange Voorhout, an 18th-century palace that formerly served as the winter residence of Queen Mother Emma. Since 2002, the building has functioned as an art museum, blending its royal architectural heritage with modern graphic art.
The permanent collection includes over 130 woodcuts and lithographs by the Dutch artist M.C. Escher. Highlights feature his most famous works, such as Metamorphosis III, Day and Night, and Climbing and Descending. The displays cover his early Italian landscapes as well as his later explorations of mathematical transformations and impossible buildings.
Interactive optical illusion displays, art installations, and puzzles are integrated throughout the museum to illustrate the artist's play with perspective. The museum also hosts rotating exhibitions, such as the work of Anne Desmet, and offers audio tours and lectures.
