This medieval castle is the last of its kind in the Blésois region, showcasing a transition from defensive military architecture to the Renaissance style. Originally established in the 11th century, the structure was destroyed in 1356 and underwent extensive reconstruction between 1475 and 1483. It is characterized by its ramparts, towers, courtines, and a central courtyard, offering insights into the history of the Marches de Bretagne. The site has been a protected national monument since 1912 and underwent significant restoration by the French state during the 20th century.
The interior features scenographic rooms and serves as a museum highlighting early construction techniques. The site includes La Coursive, an area dedicated to the history of the local region. Access to the fortress is available through both self-guided and guided tours, with audioguides also provided. The castle and its outdoor spaces are open to the public for exploration.
