This bottom-hill temple is worth visiting for its ancient cemetery, where many members of the Japanese aristocracy are buried. It was established in the 9th century but as many other important buildings of that era, it was heavily damaged by fire in the wartime. Later on, it was rebuilt and it is now one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Kyoto.
