Палац служить місцем парламенту Данії, Міністерства Держави та Верховного суду. Крім того, деякі його частини все ще використовуються Королівською сім'єю для різних заходів та церемоній.
Перший замок був побудований на цьому місці ще в 12 столітті, однак він згорів, і там зробили два замки, які були зведені тут після цього. Нинішній палац датується 1928 роком, і він був спроектований як королівська резиденція, хоча король ніколи не жив тут. Це суміш нео-барокового та неокласичного стилів.
Парламент розташований у південному крилі палацу, а Королівські рецепції, Верховний суд і кабінет Прем'єр-міністра можна знайти у північному крилі. Деякі частини палацу відкриті для громадськості з екскурсіями, без попередньої резервації. Обов'язково гляньте хоча б на Великий зал, найбільшу частину Королівських приймальних кімнат, де можна помилуватися гобеленом королеви.

There is free entrance to the public galleries during parliamentary debates. Otherwise, the Parliament can only be visited with a guided tour.
