This 8.5-meter (28-foot) bronze statue was designed by the renowned sculptor Ivan Meštrović and erected in 1929. The monument features a towering figure of a medieval bishop, known for its significant height and dark bronze finish.
The statue commemorates a 10th-century Croatian bishop who fought to introduce the Croatian language into religious services, opposing the exclusive use of Latin. This advocacy made the figure a symbol of national identity and cultural heritage.
