This historic mountain pass has served as a crucial Alpine transversal for trade and travel since the 13th century. Following a two-year renovation, the site features the Gotthard-Nationalmuseum, which hosts historical exhibits and the Longest Museum in the World experience. The area includes various hiking and mountain bike routes, as well as onsite accommodations and dining. As a symbol of Swiss independence and unity, it connects diverse cultural and linguistic areas. The pass is closed for the winter season from November to May.
