塞爾默繆特

Sermermiut is a significant archaeological site and former Inuit settlement that has seen habitation for over 4,000 years. The area contains evidence of three distinct cultures: the Saqqaq, the Early Dorset, and the Thule. As a nationally protected site, it is now part of the Ilulissat Icefjord UNESCO World Heritage site.

The site is situated in a valley extending toward the shores of Disko Bay. A wooden boardwalk facilitates access across the terrain, serving to protect the fragile Arctic nature from impact. This walkway leads through the former settlement area toward the edge of the icefjord, where large icebergs are frequently visible.

The archaeological findings at this location have provided insights into the history of Arctic settlements and the various cultural groups that have occupied the region. The site is accessible from the outskirts of the nearby town and is open to the public for exploration on foot.
