Bardo National Museum

Housed in a former Husainid palace in Le Bardo, a suburb of Tunis, this institution is the largest archaeological museum in the country and the second largest in Africa. The historic 19th-century Beylical residence also incorporates elements of a 15th-century Hafsid structure. The museum occupies a 20,000-square-meter site and has been open to the public since its official opening on May 7, 1888.

The collection is world-renowned for containing one of the largest assemblies of Roman mosaics. In addition to these, the galleries house significant Punic, Numidian, Greek, and Islamic archaeological artifacts, documenting history from prehistory through the Arab era to the modern day. Notable portions of the collection are displayed within the former harem of the palace.

As a major cultural and historical institution, the museum offers an extensive look at the region's heritage. The exhibits feature a wide array of treasures, including ancient sculptures and significant archaeological finds from the various civilizations that have shaped the area's history.
