Originally established in the 13th century for defensive and administrative purposes, this royal castle is a national cultural monument. The structure illustrates an architectural evolution from the Romanesque and Gothic periods through to the Renaissance style. Notable features include the Baroque Chapel of Saint Barbara and a courtyard containing the Lípa neviny (Linden of Innocence).
The castle is open to the public and features several guided tours of the historical interiors. These spaces house extensive natural history and historical collections, including a museum dedicated to the Berchtold counts. The site also contains a collection of medieval art, a gallery, and various exhibitions.
A viewing tower provides views of the surrounding landscape. The grounds include a restaurant and a castle courtyard available for exploration. Cultural programs are held at the site.
