Church of St. Sophia

The structure dates back to approximately 1035 and served as a patriarchal cathedral, later becoming the seat of the Archbishopric of Ohrid. It has functioned as both an Eastern Orthodox church and a mosque, resulting in a combination of Byzantine and Ottoman architectural styles. The building is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The interior is renowned for a significant collection of Byzantine frescoes produced between the 11th and 13th centuries. These medieval artworks are considered some of the most important historical and cultural monuments in the country. The architectural design includes elements of the Giannina style.

This historic monument is a prominent example of medieval religious architecture. The site preserves centuries of cultural heritage and remains an important landmark for the study of Byzantine art and history.
