Asunción Cathedral

Inaugurated in 1845, this neoclassical cathedral serves as the primary Catholic temple in the region and the seat of the metropolitan archdiocese. It holds historical importance as the seat of the first diocese of the Río de la Plata. The current structure is dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption and is recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site.

The interior is notable for its high altar coated in silver. As a central hub for the Catholic Church, the building facilitates both pastoral and administrative activities. Access to the interior is often limited to times when religious services are being conducted.

The site functions as the metropolitan seat of the ecclesiastical province. Its origins as a religious landmark date back to the 18th century, though the present building was completed in the mid-19th century.
