Olesko Castle

This medieval fortress, dating back to the 13th or 14th century, is situated on a strategic hill and is characterized by its distinct oval shape. Historically significant as a site of contention between Lithuania and Poland, the castle is most famous as the birthplace of Jan III Sobieski, who served as the King of Poland. It is recognized as a National Monument and represents one of the oldest architectural landmarks in the region.

The site currently functions as a museum-reserve and a branch of the Lviv National Art Gallery. The interior houses a diverse collection of art spanning the 10th to 18th centuries, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. Specific exhibits feature 16th and 17th-century antique furnishings alongside various historical artifacts.

The fortress is surrounded by a restored park and is open to the public as a museum. Its elevated position on a hill provided a strategic vantage point throughout its history, and it remains a prominent historical object for those interested in regional heritage and art history.
