Hauteville House

Hauteville House served as the residence of the French writer Victor Hugo during his exile between 1856 and 1870. During this period, the author produced many of his literary masterpieces. The property now operates as a museum managed by Paris Musées and is owned by the City of Paris, serving as a dedicated space to preserve the legacy of his life and work.

The house is a unique work of art, with the layout and décor personally designed and transformed by Hugo himself to reflect his creative vision and philosophy. The interiors remain preserved exactly as they were during his residence, showcasing elaborate decorations and abundant creativity. A notable feature of the interior is the 'Lookout', the author's study where he conducted much of his writing.
