Cyparis's Dungeon

This vaulted stone dungeon is situated within the ruins of a former prison. The structure is officially designated as a monument historique, representing a significant piece of regional heritage.

The site is the location where Louis-Auguste Cyparis survived the 1902 volcanic eruption of Mount Pelée. While the eruption destroyed the surrounding city, the thick walls of the dungeon protected Cyparis, making it one of the few surviving structures from the disaster.
