Shell Beach

This 123,055-hectare protected area encompasses a coastline stretching approximately 120 kilometers. The landscape consists of mangrove forests, wetlands, and beaches. The environment is remote and wild, accessible only via river systems and the Atlantic coast.

The region serves as a critical nesting ground for four endangered species of marine turtles. It is managed as a sustainable resource area within the National Protected Areas System to conserve biodiversity and natural heritage.

Management involves a partnership between the Protected Areas Commission, local indigenous communities, and non-governmental conservation organizations. This collaboration supports local livelihoods while maintaining the site as an eco-tourism destination for wildlife observation in a natural setting.
