One of the top five operas in the world. It's operated by the Bavarian State Opera company, but it also houses the Bavarian State Orchestra and the Bavarian State Ballet.

The building we see today is the third theatre on the same site. The first one was built in 1823 and burned to the ground. The second theatre was destroyed in an air attack in 1943, and the third one was finished in 1963 and stands to this day.

The theatre was the venue for many world-premieres, for example, Wagner's Tristan und Isolde in 1865, The Valkyrie in 1870 or Strauss' Peace Day in 1938.

Today, you can witness various operas, ballet performances, concerts, festivals and similar, all in this beautiful neo-classical building. You can get here by trams 19 and N19, station Nationaltheater.
