Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire

This historic estate originated as a 10th-century fortress and underwent significant reconstruction during the 15th century. The property has been home to notable historical figures, including Catherine de Médicis (Queen of France) and Diane de Poitiers (noblewoman and mistress of Henry II). The site is recognized as a National Monument and features a blend of Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements.

The estate functions as a museum and a center for arts and nature, encompassing a fully refurnished château, historic stables, and 32 hectares of parkland. It hosts the annual International Garden Festival and permanent contemporary art installations. Photography exhibitions and various garden displays are integrated throughout the grounds.

The site is open to the public and is wheelchair accessible. A complete visit to the château, the numerous gardens, and the art exhibitions typically requires at least three hours.
