Akureyri

Peaks and Glaciers

This collection features the prominent high-altitude landmarks surrounding Akureyri and the Glerárdalur valley. It includes Kerling, the highest peak in the Tröllaskagi Peninsula at 1,538 meters, and the iconic twin-peaked Súlur. The list also covers Hlíðarfjall, home to one of Iceland’s premier ski resorts, and the Bægisárjökull glacier. These geological formations offer diverse terrain ranging from accessible hiking trails to technical climbs, providing panoramic views across Eyjafjörður and the northern highlands.

Súlur

Súlur is a mountain located to the south west of the town Akureyri in Iceland rising some 1213 meters. It is popular for hiking tours.

Bægisárjökull

A small cirque glacier located at the head of the Bægisárdalur valley.

Kerling

The highest mountain in the Tröllaskagi Peninsula, reaching an elevation of 1,538 meters.

Hlíðarfjall

An 1,116-meter peak primarily known for hosting one of Iceland's most prominent ski resorts.

Þríklakar

A mountain peak in the Glerárdalur area rising to 1,160 meters.

Glerárdalshnjúkur

A 1,113-meter peak situated within the mountainous Glerárdalur valley.

Hrosshnjúkur

A peak in the Tröllaskagi region reaching approximately 1,110 meters.

Kambsfjall

A 1,152-meter mountain located to the west of Akureyri.

Blátindur

A peak located on the ridge above the Hlíðarfjall ski area.

Strýta

A 1,175-meter peak situated at the southern end of the Hlíðarfjall ridge.

Tröllafjall

A mountain peak in the Tröllaskagi range rising to 1,144 meters.

Kistufjall

A 1,078-meter peak located near the Bægisárjökull glacier.

Litli-Krummi

A smaller rocky peak located on the ridge leading toward Súlur.

Stóri-Krummi

A prominent rocky outcrop situated on the main hiking route to Súlur.

Ytri-Súla

The northernmost of the two peaks forming the Súlur mountain massif, reaching 1,144 meters.
