The Atacama region contains some of the highest volcanic peaks on Earth, concentrated along the border between Chile and Argentina. This list features Ojos del Salado, the world's highest active volcano at 6,893 meters, alongside other massive stratovolcanoes like Incahuasi and Cerro El Muerto. Characterized by extreme aridity and high-altitude lagoons, these summits include the Tres Cruces massif and several peaks exceeding 6,000 meters, making the area a global center for high-altitude mountaineering and volcanic research.
