Avignon Theatre and Arts

Avignon is a global hub for performing arts, anchored by the historic 19th-century Opéra Grand Avignon and the world-renowned Festival d'Avignon. This selection features diverse venues, from the established Théâtre des Carmes—a pioneer of the "Off" festival—to contemporary spaces like La Manufacture and the dance-focused CDC - les Hivernales. Many theaters, such as Théâtre Benoit XII and Théâtre du Chien qui fume, are housed within historic structures inside the city’s medieval walls, hosting year-round performances and experimental works.
