Hidden Kopjes of the Serengeti

These ancient granite outcrops, known as kopjes, rise from the Serengeti plains to form unique micro-ecosystems. Carved by wind and rain over millions of years, these "islands in a sea of grass" provide essential shade, seasonal water pools, and strategic vantage points for predators like lions and leopards. From the central Maasai Kopjes to the remote Sametu group, these rocky clusters offer specialized habitats for klipspringers, rock hyraxes, and diverse birdlife, serving as critical landmarks for wildlife tracking across the savanna.
