Natural Wonders

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté's natural landscape is defined by diverse geological formations. The Rock of Solutré offers a dramatic limestone escarpment overlooking vineyards, while the Grande Grotte d'Arcy contains some of the world's oldest cave paintings. Water shapes the region at the Saut du Doubs falls and the Source de la Loue, where a river emerges from a cliff face. The moss-covered Cascade des Tufs showcases tufa limestone formations, and the Signal d'Uchon features weathered granite boulders known as the 'Pear' and the 'Mammoth.'

Rock of Solutré

The Rock of Solutré is a limestone escarpment 8 km west of Mâcon, France, overlooking the commune of Solutré-Pouilly.

Grande Grotte d'Arcy

Part of a prehistoric cave complex, this site features Paleolithic cave paintings dating back 28,000 years. The cave contains stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lakes, with notable depictions of mammoths and other Ice Age fauna.

Cascade des Tufs

Fed by the Cuisance river, this waterfall flows over a series of moss-covered tufa limestone steps. The site is accessible via a forest path and is known for its multiple cascades and turquoise pools.

Saut du Doubs

The waterfalls are the centrepiece of the Brenets lake. Taking a lake cruise or hiking towards them is both worth doing.

Loue

The Loue is a river of eastern France, a left tributary of the Doubs, which it joins downstream of Dole. It is 122 km long.

Signal d'Uchon

A granite massif in the Morvan known for its unusual weathered rock formations, including 'The Mammoth' and 'The Devil's Claw.' At 684 meters, it provides panoramic views of the Morvan peaks and the Loire Valley.
