The Cordillera Real and the adjacent Quimsa Cruz range form a dramatic backbone of the Bolivian Andes. This selection features the 6,438-meter Nevado Illimani and its neighboring 6,166-meter peak, Layqa Qullu. Beyond the high summits, the region contains the high-altitude Wallatani Lake, the Incataka archaeological ruins, and geothermal features like the Aguas Calientes thermal baths. Remnants of the area's mining history are visible in abandoned settlements, while the landscape varies from arid cactus fields to glacial valleys and waterfalls.
