Spiritual Sites of Matsue

Matsue is home to some of Japan's most significant Shinto sites, including several of the 'Ou Rokusha,' or Six Shrines of Ou. These landmarks are deeply tied to Japanese mythology, such as the legend of the underworld entrance at Iya Shrine and the sacred 'wishing stones' of Tamatsukuri-yu Shrine. From the Taisha-zukuri architecture of Miho Shrine to the castle-ground setting of Matsue Shrine, these sites offer a glimpse into the Izumo region's ancient spiritual traditions and historical craftsmanship.

真名井神社

One of the Six Shrines of Ou, this shrine is situated southeast of Mount Chausu. It is historically significant as a site of ancient ritual worship within the Izumo region.

Miho Shrine

Miho Jinja is a Shinto shrine in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. The Taisha-zukuri Honden of 1813 is an Important Cultural Property.

揖夜神社

A prominent shrine in the Six Shrines of Ou, located near Yomotsu Hirasaka, the mythical entrance to the underworld. It is closely associated with the goddess Izanami and ancient burial traditions.

Yaegaki Shrine
