Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples

Nikko’s spiritual landscape is defined by the Shrines and Temples of Nikko, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Taiyuinbyo Iemitsu Taiyuin Temple

The mausoleum of the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu. Its design uses black lacquer and gold leaf to create a more subdued atmosphere than the nearby Toshogu shrine.
