Nature and Scenic Views

This selection highlights the diverse natural landscapes and outdoor landmarks surrounding Oviedo. It features the dramatic horseshoe meanders of the Nora River, visible from several dedicated viewpoints, and the summit of Monte Naranco, home to the Sagrado Corazón monument. The list also includes the Jardín de los Reyes, which displays sculptures of Asturian monarchs, and the La Lluera caves, known for their Paleolithic engravings. For hikers, the trails near Trubia lead to the cascading waterfalls of the Güanga stream.

Jardín de los Reyes

An outdoor sculpture garden located opposite the Cathedral of San Salvador. It contains statues representing the twelve kings of the Asturian monarchy who reigned when Oviedo was the capital of the kingdom.

Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

A 30-meter stone monument atop Monte Naranco, designed by Gerardo Zaragoza in 1980. The site provides 360-degree views of Oviedo, the central Asturian valley, and the Picos de Europa mountain range.

Cascadas Río Güanga

A series of waterfalls located in the Trubia valley. Accessible via a hiking trail from San Andrés, the route passes through traditional forests featuring oak and chestnut trees.

Mirador de los meandros del Nora

A viewpoint overlooking the natural border between Oviedo and Las Regueras. It offers a direct perspective of the Nora River's sharp horseshoe bends and the surrounding limestone cliffs.

Situated along the Nora River trail, this vantage point provides a side-on view of the river's deep loops and the lush riparian vegetation of the Asturian countryside.

Mirador de la Peñona de los Meandros del Nora

Located on a rocky outcrop, this point offers a high-elevation view of the Nora River meanders, a protected natural monument known for its distinctive geological formations.

La Lluera I

A limestone cave containing Upper Paleolithic rock art. The interior features deep-line engravings of horses, bovids, and deer dating to the Solutrean period, approximately 20,000 years ago.
