Richat Structure Essentials

The Richat Structure, or Guelb er Richât, is a 40-kilometer-wide geological dome in the Adrar Plateau of Mauritania. Originally mistaken for an impact crater, this deeply eroded uplift reveals concentric rings of Paleozoic sedimentary rock. This selection features the primary observation points across the formation, colonial-era desert forts that once monitored the region, and basic wilderness shelters used by travelers exploring this remote Saharan landscape.
