Rondane Essentials
Rondane Essentials highlights the core landmarks of Norway's oldest national park. The selection includes the park's highest peak, Rondslottet, and the Sohlbergplassen viewpoint, which famously inspired Harald Sohlberg’s painting "Winter Night in the Mountains." The list features a network of historic mountain lodges like Rondvassbu and Bjørnhollia, which serve as hubs for the park’s ten peaks over 2,000 meters. Natural highlights include the Jutulhogget canyon and the waterfalls of the Ula River, set against a landscape of vast lichen-covered plateaus.
A sohlbergplassen
An architectural viewpoint designed by Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk. It frames the Rondane mountains from the same angle as Harald Sohlberg’s 1914 painting, "Winter Night in the Mountains."
Rondvassbu
A staffed Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) cabin situated at the southern end of Lake Rondevatnet. It serves as a central base for climbing the park's highest peaks.
C Bjørnhollia
A staffed DNT mountain lodge in eastern Rondane featuring traditional timber architecture. It is a key stop on the hiking route through the Illmanndalen valley.
Rondeslottet
Rondslottet is the highest mountain in the Rondane mountain range in the county of Innlandet.
Peer Gynt-hytta
A cluster of traditional stone cabins dating back to 1932. It operates as a seasonal café serving waffles and coffee to hikers between Høvringen and Rondvassbu.
F Straumbu
A rest area and information point located on the National Tourist Route Rondane. It serves as the main trailhead for excursions into the eastern part of the national park.
Smuksjøseter fjellstue
A mountain lodge located by Lake Høvringsvatnet at the edge of the national park. It provides direct access to the Peer Gynt trail and the northern plateau.
Storronden
Storronden is a mountain in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway.
Dørålseter (øvre)
A mountain lodge located in the Dørålen valley at the northern entrance to the park. It is a primary starting point for hikes to the Digerronden and Høgronden peaks.
Ulafossen
A series of waterfalls on the Ula River, situated near the mountain village of Mysusæter at the southern gateway to the park.
