San Rafael del Yuma's Absolute Essentials

San Rafael del Yuma features the 16th-century Mediterranean-style village of Altos de Chavón, overlooking the Chavón River where scenes from Apocalypse Now were filmed. The region includes the Parque Nacional del Este and Saona Island, known for coral reefs and diverse marine life. History enthusiasts can visit the fortified home of explorer Juan Ponce de León. Coastal Bayahíbe serves as a hub for boat excursions and diving, while the surrounding area offers limestone cenotes like Hoyo Azul and championship golf courses designed by Pete Dye.
