Iceland's Natural Wonders

Located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, these sites center around the Snæfellsjökull glacier-capped stratovolcano, famously featured in Jules Verne’s literature. The area contains the 8,000-year-old Vatnshellir lava tube, which descends 35 meters underground through ancient volcanic flows. Coastal highlights include Djúpalón’s black pebble landscape and the Klukkufoss waterfall, which is framed by distinct basalt column formations typical of Iceland's volcanic geology.

Vatnshellir Lava Cave

An 8,000-year-old lava tube extending 200 meters and reaching depths of 35 meters below the surface. It was formed during an eruption of the nearby Purkhólar crater.

Klukkufoss

A waterfall on the Móðulækur river characterized by its surrounding pentagonal basalt columns.

Vatnshellir

Guided tour access point for the subterranean lava cave. Entry is restricted to scheduled tours and requires a fee.

Djúpalón

A small lake located near the black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur. The surrounding area contains historic lifting stones once used by fishermen to test their strength.
