Somiedo is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Cantabrian Mountains, characterized by deep glacial valleys and traditional Asturian architecture. This list highlights the Lagos de Saliencia and Lago del Valle, the largest natural lake in Asturias. It includes the 'teitos'—stone cabins with thatched roofs found in high-mountain pastures like Braña Sousas—and interpretation centers dedicated to the Cantabrian brown bear, which maintains one of its last wild populations in these rugged landscapes.

Lago del Valle

The largest natural lake in Asturias, situated at 1,580 meters within a glacial cirque. It features a small central island and is accessible via a popular hiking trail from the village of Valle de Lago.

Lago de La Cueva

Part of the Lagos de Saliencia glacial complex, this lake is distinguished by the reddish hue of its surrounding terrain, a legacy of former iron mining activities in the area.

Braña Sousas o Tabladiello / Braña Tabladiellu

A traditional high-mountain pasture containing several 'teitos,' which are ancient stone huts with broom-thatched roofs used by shepherds. The site is located at the head of a glacial valley.

Centro de Interpretación Somiedo y el Oso
