Maritime Fortifications

Explore the 19th-century Prussian defensive systems of the Świnoujście Fortress, strategically located at the mouth of the Świna River. This collection features well-preserved coastal fortifications, including the circular Fort Anioła and the expansive Fort Gerharda, which houses the Coastal Defense Museum. The sites display a range of historical military hardware, from Soviet-era anti-aircraft guns and the Pantherturm tank turret to the 'Dzwon' observation tower, reflecting the region's naval significance through World War II and the Cold War.

Fort Gerharda

A 19th-century Prussian coastal fort, also known as the East Fort. It is one of the best-preserved maritime defense structures in the region and currently houses the Coastal Defense Museum, featuring historical military artifacts and interactive tours.

Fort Zachodni

Built in the mid-19th century to protect the harbor, this Prussian fortification served as a coastal battery during World War II. It was later used by Soviet forces and now functions as a museum dedicated to the fortress's history.

Fort Anioła

Constructed between 1845 and 1858, this Prussian rotunda was modeled after Rome's Castel Sant'Angelo. The three-story fortification served as a command post and observation point, designed with thick masonry walls for infantry and light artillery defense.
