Sylt Lighthouses

Sylt’s coastal landscape is defined by its historic lighthouses, which have guided maritime traffic since the mid-19th century. This collection includes the cast-iron twin towers of the Ellenbogen peninsula, List West and List Ost, and the iconic striped Hörnum lighthouse. These structures represent diverse architectural styles, from the 1913 brick sector light at Rotes Kliff to the functional maritime beacons of the southern tip.

Leuchtturm Hörnum

A 33-meter red-and-white striped tower built in 1907. Situated on a 16-meter high dune, it famously housed Germany's smallest schoolroom for local children until 1933.

Germany's northernmost lighthouse, located on the Ellenbogen peninsula. This white cast-iron tower was established in 1858 to guide ships through the Lister Tief.

Rotes Kliff Lighthouse

The Rotes Kliff Lighthouse on the island of Sylt, Germany, served as a sector light from 1913 to 1975.

Hörnumer Leuchtfeuer

A former cross-marker light located near the main Hörnum lighthouse. This small beacon was active until 1977, assisting navigation in the southern waters of the island.
