Scenic Nature Walks

Trondheim’s landscape offers a diverse mix of formal city parks and rugged outdoor terrain. This collection features the historic Stiftsgårdsparken in the city center alongside coastal spots like Grilstadstranda and Ringvebukta. Higher elevations in Bymarka and Estenstadmarka, including the Burmaklippen cliff and Gråkallen peak, provide panoramic views of the Trondheimsfjord and surrounding mountains. Many locations are accessible via established hiking trails or city infrastructure.

Stiftsgårdsparken

A 3,000-square-meter park adjacent to Stiftsgården, the Royal Residence. Formerly a private garden, it is now an open public space in the Midtbyen district featuring formal landscaping and historic architecture.

Iladalen Park

Iladalen Park is a park in the borough of Iladalen in the district of Sagene in Oslo, Norway. The 27.9 acre park was established in 1948.

Utsikten

A wheelchair-accessible viewpoint overlooking the city and the Trondheimsfjord. Located near the Ila district, it serves as a vantage point along the trails connecting the city to the Bymarka forest.

Kuhaugen

A high-altitude viewpoint east of the city center. It offers a wide perspective of Trondheim, the fjord, and the mountains of Malvik and Selbu.

Burmaklippen

A dramatic rock formation in the Estenstadmarka forest, often compared to a miniature Trolltunga. The cliff edge provides views over the surrounding woodland and eastern parts of the city.

Grilstadstranda

A sandy beach featuring a promenade, public showers, and toilets. The area is fully wheelchair accessible and located along the coastal path in Ranheim.

Ringvebukta

A swimming area and grassy park located near the Ringve Botanical Garden. It sits along the Ladestien coastal path, offering direct access to the Trondheimsfjord.

St. Olavsspranget

A viewpoint in the Bymarka forest featuring a steep cliff drop. It offers views of the fjord and the northern coastline toward Fosen.

Gråkallen Panorama

Situated at 552 meters above sea level, this is one of the highest points in Bymarka. The summit area provides clear views of the city, the fjord, and distant mountain ranges.

Elgsethytta panorama

A viewpoint located near the Elgsethytta mountain cabin. It overlooks the lakes and forest terrain of the central Bymarka region.

Jervfjellet

A 504-meter peak located east of Trondheim. The summit offers views of Jonsvatnet lake, the Trondheimsfjord, and the Sylan mountain range toward the Swedish border.
