Urubamba

Cultural Heritage Sites

This collection in the Urubamba province features significant Incan archaeological sites and monuments. It includes Inti Punku, a stone gateway overlooking the valley, and Choquequilla, an ancient shrine centered around a carved megalithic cave. The list also highlights the Pumamarca fortress, a military installation known for its well-preserved stone masonry and terracing, alongside the statue of Manco Ccapac, the legendary founder of the Inca Empire. Inti Punku - Puerta del sol

An Incan Sun Gate located at 3,900 meters above sea level. This stone structure served as a strategic viewpoint and ceremonial entrance, offering direct views of the Sacred Valley and Mount Veronica.

Choquequilla

Also known as the Moon Temple, this Incan huaca features a large carved rock inside a natural cave. The site includes intricate niches and platforms used for religious ceremonies.

Manco Ccapac

A large bronze statue depicting the first Inca ruler, Manco Ccapac. It is situated in the central plaza of Aguas Calientes, serving as a tribute to the founder of the Cusco dynasty.

Ruinas de Pumamarca

A pre-Incan and Incan fortress situated on a ridge overlooking the Patacancha Valley. The site features extensive stone walls, residential structures, and agricultural terraces designed for defensive purposes.

Pumamarca

Strategic archaeological complex featuring well-preserved Incan masonry and storage structures. It served as a military checkpoint and administrative center near Ollantaytambo.
