Throughout its history, it has served as a Byzantine fort, an Ottoman garrison, an artillery station, and a British prison. The site houses the Larnaka Medieval Museum, which displays historical artifacts from the early Christian, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine periods. The internal courtyard functions as an open-air theatre. The fortress preserves various architectural elements from its past military and administrative uses, standing as a prominent feature on the waterfront.
