Originally founded as a Franciscan convent, this 18th-century architectural ensemble was later transformed into a retreat for writers and travelers. Completed around 1787, the property is now a historic house museum managed by the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano). The site is characterized by its 18th-century Loggia and preserved interiors that house various historical collections and artifacts.
The villa contains the Museum of Expeditions, which is dedicated to the explorer Guido Monzino. The exhibits showcase items from his adventurous history and travels. The property spans approximately 12,000 square meters, much of which is occupied by elaborate terraced gardens that overlook the water.
The grounds and buildings have gained international recognition as filming locations for major cinema productions, including Star Wars and Casino Royale. The site is open to the public, allowing for the exploration of both the manicured gardens and the historical collections within the villa.
