Parks & Gardens of Avila

Avila's green spaces range from the historic Plaza de Santa Teresa, situated outside the Puerta del Alcázar, to the serene Parque del Rastro along the southern walls. This collection includes the Roman bridge spanning the Adaja River and the 19th-century Jardín del Recreo. Visitors can explore the Jardín de las Tres Culturas, which commemorates the city's medieval heritage, or find shade in the wooded Parque de la Encarnación near the historic monastery where Saint Teresa once lived.

Plaza de Santa Teresa

Large square outside the Puerta del Alcázar gate. Features a monument to Saint Teresa of Avila and provides panoramic views of the medieval city walls.

Puente Romano

Five-arched bridge over the Adaja River. Originally built by Romans and reconstructed during the 11th and 13th centuries, it serves as a key pedestrian link with views of the western fortifications.

Parque del Rastro

Elevated promenade running parallel to the southern section of the city walls. Offers expansive views across the Amblés Valley and contains several historical monuments.

Jardín del Recreo

19th-century public garden located near the Basilica of San Vicente. Features a central fountain, seasonal flowerbeds, and a monument dedicated to Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba.

Parque de San Antonio

Spacious park adjacent to the Convent of San Antonio. Known for its mature trees, children's play areas, and proximity to the city's railway station.

Jardín de las Tres Culturas

Commemorative garden representing the historical coexistence of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities. Located on the southern slopes of the city overlooking the Adaja River valley.

Plaza de Santa Ana

Modernized square on the site of the former Royal Monastery of Santa Ana. The space is defined by its contemporary design and its location near the provincial government headquarters.

Parque de los Patos

Formally known as Parque de San Roque, this local green space features a central pond with waterfowl and extensive shaded walking paths.

Parque de lla Encarnacion

Wooded parkland situated near the Monastery of the Incarnation. It provides a quiet natural environment outside the northern perimeter of the historic city walls.
