The Great Mosque of Kong is an 18th-century religious building constructed in the Sudanese-Sahelian architectural style. Its structure is characterized by the use of sun-dried earth bricks and massive walls reinforced with traditional wooden beams. This form of earth architecture is considered a masterpiece of neo-Sudanese design and historical building techniques.
Recognized as the oldest symbol of Islamization in the area, the mosque was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2021. It is also classified as a national historical monument. The building serves as a major landmark within the context of the historical Manding trading city, reflecting the architectural and cultural significance of the northern savanna.
