Savitsky Art Museum

Founded in 1966 by I.V. Savitsky, this institution is dedicated to preserving regional cultural heritage and managing an extensive collection of more than 100,000 objects. It is widely recognized for its vision in safeguarding art that was historically suppressed, earning a reputation as one of the most significant cultural repositories in the world.

The museum is globally famous for its Russian avant-garde collection, which is the second largest of its kind. This assembly includes thousands of paintings from the 20th century, alongside a significant selection of Turkestan avant-garde art. These works were preserved despite being banned during the Soviet era, offering a unique look at forbidden artistic movements.

Extensive displays of Karakalpak folk art and archaeological artifacts from Ancient Khorezm are also on view. These exhibits document the historical and cultural evolution of the region through ancient relics and traditional crafts. The facility is wheelchair accessible and open to the public.
