This historical route spans between three and four kilometers, tracing the final path taken by over a million enslaved people before their transport across the Atlantic. It serves as a somber memorial to the regional history of the transatlantic slave trade. The path concludes at the Door of No Return, a monument situated on the coast.

Several significant landmarks are located along the trail, reflecting different stages of the journey. These include the Plaza Chacha, the Tree of Oblivion, the Zomai House, and the Memorial of Zoungbodji. Each site marks a specific point of the historical forced march toward the ocean.

The road remains a central site for local cultural events and observances. It serves as a focal point for processions during the annual Voodoo Festival. This memorial site is open to the public.
