This archaeological site contains the remains of an ancient Illyrian, Roman, and Byzantine city. It functioned as a major urban center and served as the capital of the Roman province of Praevalitana. The city is famously associated with the Roman emperor Diocletian.
The ruins include a forum, a basilica, and several temples. Other visible architectural features consist of thermal baths, a triumphal arch, and a palace. The site also contains necropolises and remnants of massive defensive walls. These structures are situated at the confluence of the Zeta and Morača rivers.
As a designated Cultural Heritage Site, the area is open for exploration. It is currently a pilot site for the ROMAN LEGACY project, which focuses on the development of cultural routes and digital modeling for Roman heritage.
