Designed by architect Gottlieb Redecker, it serves as the central place of worship for the German-speaking Evangelical Lutheran congregation and is part of the Deutsche Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche (DELK).
The architecture features a combination of Neo-Romanesque, Art Nouveau, and Gothic Revival styles. Notable interior elements include stained glass windows donated by Kaiser Wilhelm II, who was the German Emperor.
