The synagogue originated at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, with the first recorded mention appearing 600 years ago. It stands as a National Cultural Monument and is considered the oldest and most valuable synagogue monument in the Czech Republic outside of Prague. The building exhibits a blend of Renaissance and early Baroque architecture, following a late 17th-century reconstruction. Notable interior features include early Baroque stucco decorations and an original Torah ark dating from the 17th century.
The structure is located within a courtyard in the former Jewish ghetto and underwent a significant renovation completed in 2000. It now serves as a venue for cultural and educational purposes, preserving the Jewish heritage of the region.
The interior houses a permanent historical exhibition titled They lived here with us. Access to the building is provided through the local Town Information Centre, where guided tours are available.
