Hukvaldy Castle

Founded around 1250 in the mid-13th century, this complex is among the largest castle ruins in the Czech Republic and Moravia. It is historically significant for its defensive architecture and holds the distinction of never being conquered. For a long period, the castle was under the ownership of the Olomouc bishops (high-ranking clergy members from the city of Olomouc).

The site is a protected cultural monument and currently operates as a branch of the Muzeum Beskyd Frýdek-Místek. The grounds are open to the public, featuring historical tours and rotating exhibitions. The ruins also provide scenic views of the surrounding Moravian-Silesian landscape.

As a significant event venue, the castle hosts a variety of cultural programs. These include concerts and an annual international music festival honoring the composer Leoš Janáček. The location is also used for various historical programs and exhibitions throughout the season.
