Originally established in 1251, this frontier castle is situated on a 475-meter-high hill. It initially functioned as a royal fortress designed to protect Carpathian mountain passes and trade routes. The site features preserved medieval and Renaissance fortifications, reflecting its history as a defensive stronghold and administrative center.
The castle later served as a prison for religious figures before being abandoned following the construction of a manor house in Sobotište. The ruins are partially restored, with ongoing archaeological research conducted on the grounds. The site is open to the public.
