North Yungas Road

Constructed in 1935, this historic route spans approximately 64 to 80 kilometers. It originally served as a primary connection between high-altitude mountain regions and the jungle. Following the opening of a safer alternative bypass in 2007, the road transitioned from a major transport artery into a site primarily used for adventure tourism.

The road is characterized by dramatic scenery and steep descents that transition from the high Andes into the Amazon basin. Historically known as the world's most dangerous road due to extreme conditions and high accident rates, the route is now a major site for mountain biking and extreme sports.

While the route is open for use, travel advisories indicate potential security risks in the region associated with civil unrest and criminal activity. The path leads to the jungle town of Coroico and remains a significant location for high-altitude downhill cycling.
