The complex covers 10,500 square meters of artificial ice, making it the largest high-mountain skating rink in the world. Situated at an altitude of 1,691 meters above sea level, the facility is known as a "factory of records" due to more than 170 world records set there in speed skating and bandy.
Originally established in 1951, the current stadium structure officially opened in 1972 and features a maximum capacity of 8,500 people. It serves as a major training center for Olympic athletes and a venue for international winter sports competitions.
The outdoor rink is open to the public year-round, providing space for ice skating during the winter and roller sports during other seasons. The site also provides access to several mountain hiking trails.
