Căpriana Monastery

Dating back to at least 1429, with historical records suggesting foundations as early as 1401, this site is one of the oldest monasteries in the region. It holds the status of a national monument and represents a key example of medieval architecture. The complex has deep historical ties to prominent rulers, including Alexandru cel Bun, who founded the original voivodal church, and Petru Rareș, who later restored it. The site is also closely associated with the reign of the ruler Stefan cel Mare.

The monastery complex comprises three distinct churches: St. Nicholas, St. George, and the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. These structures serve as an architectural record of religious history. The site houses the relics of Metropolitan Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni and underwent major restorations in the early 21st century.

The grounds function as an active Eastern Orthodox holy site and are open to the public. The complex serves as a significant cultural and spiritual landmark, reflecting over 500 years of heritage.
