Inaugurated on December 8, 1912, this national romantic wooden church was designed by architect Gustaf Wickman. The building's unique architecture is inspired by Sámi huts (lavvú), tents, and Norwegian stave churches. It is recognized as one of the largest wooden buildings in the country and was voted the most beloved building in 2001.
The structure is a designated cultural heritage site that underwent a significant architectural move in August 2025. It was relocated over two kilometers from its original site to protect the historic monument from ground subsidence caused by mining activities.
The church serves as a place of worship within the local pastorat of the Church of Sweden. Its design features a unique architectural blend, combining traditional Nordic influences with neo-Gothic details.
